Advanced techniques for asset owners and managers

First session: finding infrastructure…

  • Estimating the potential of a new ’asset class’ using mean-variance spanning- Testing the empirical relevance of listed infrastructure proxies with respect to private infrastructure equity investments
  • Comparing like-for-like firms in different sectors using propensity score matching- Testing the difference between the cash flow characteristics of infrastructure and non-infrastructure firms
  • Discuss what defines infrastructure as a unique ’asset class’

Second session: measuring performance!

  • Pitfalls and limitations of current approaches to measuring the performance of private very illiquid equity investments- Illustration using a (real) plain vanilla PFI project
  • Robust approach to estimating discount factors in private investments paying variable cash flows- Application to the same project
  • Discuss the evolution of reporting and performance measurement in the infrastructure investment sector
